Human Factors Principles and Practices Course

Course aim

To give all staff throughout the Trust a simple understanding of Human Factors and to give them the skills to improve their performance.

Course objectives

By the end of the training delegates will:

  • Have a clear understanding of Human Factors;
  • Be able to recognise why people make errors and human fallibility;
  • Understand a Just Culture and believe the importance of open reporting;
  • Understand why communication failures occur;
  • Develop the skills to communicate well;
  • Understand how to develop better relationships and manage difficult situations;
  • Believe the importance of giving and receiving feedback and how to do it well;

Methodology

This is a powerful course that is intended to develop a clear but practical understanding of Human Factors. Our validated theories are based on the experience of thousands of professionals in safety critical industries collected over 35 years. The course is very interactive, fluid and perhaps unfamiliar as the use of presentations, lectures and scripted material is minimal. Our trainers rely on delegates’ lived experience to validate the content, and thus delegates have the opportunity to challenge the models, to enable them to make their own decisions after self reflection.
