Facilitation Skills for Simulation Training - NON CPD

Course aim

To enable new and experienced simulation trainers to develop their training skills further, as well as for clinicians in a management or supervisory role who wish to develop more effective coaching and performance management skills.

Course objectives

By the end of the course delegates will:

  • Have a clear understanding of Human Factors and the impact on Patient Safety;
  • Understand effective non-clinical skills standards and competencies;
  • Understand what facilitation is and how it should be used effectively;
  • Further develop and demonstrate an appropriate communication style;
  • Have awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses as trainers or coaches;
  • Understand behaviour and how to manage difficult situations;
  • Develop the skills to give and receive constructive criticism and praise;
  • Refine their observation and debriefing skills;

The course is intended to develop a clear but practical understanding of the learning process and the critical importance of the role of an instructor in providing an effective environment, the use of facilitation techniques, and the assessment of performance. The course supports the required cultural and attitudinal change that is essential for competence based programmes such as EBT. The course is exceptionally interactive, practical and utilises trainees’ own personal experience through discussion, which develops long-term understanding and commitment to course content. The main difference in the LMQ course is that we have a greater emphasis on developing skills and attitudes rather than just giving knowledge.
